WHO: a family of 5 (two adults and three teenagers between 15 and 18)
TRAVELLING TO: celebrate the youngest’s 15th birthday
Think about 35 days of adventure during school holidays, which coincided with Australia and New Zealand summer!
They arrived in Australia on Christmas Eve, took a trip on one of the most beautiful roads (the Great Ocean Road + the surf museum), spent the New Year in Sydney and 2 days on the largest sand island in the world.
From there, they went to NZ to explore a different kind of nature: turquoise lakes, glaciers (yes, even in summer) and adventures in the world capital of adventure: Queenstown.
There were bungee jumps, theme tours of the Lord of the Rings, sunset dinners, visits to craft breweries and haute cuisine restaurants alternating with local cafes for the famous meat pie.
And most importantly: memories for a lifetime!
WHO: two friends
TRAVELLING TO: do their first ever road trip
They already had their air tickets when they contacted me but they didn’t know what to do in New Zealand!
It was a delight to put together this itinerary which was full of adventures and movie-like destinations that were the background for the best traveller’s pictures I’ve ever seen!
It was winter, which made NZ even more special with its snowy mountains, longer nights with starry skies and that European winter holiday vibe.
They rented a car and leisurely drove from the North Island to the South Island experiencing adventures on the way: they visited geothermal parks, wineries, strolled through incredible landscapes, discovered architectural inspirations (one of them is an architect), had an amazing time through the fjords and overcame their fear of skydiving!
And to top up the experience, they rested in natural thermal pools and enjoyed the vibe of charming cities along the way!
WHO: a tennis fan
TRAVELLING TO: make the dream of watching the Australian Open on site come true
New Year’s Eve in Auckland and then off to Melbourne.
He did it the right way! He called me a year before the trip and knew exactly what he wanted: be there for the Australian Open!
He would have a month off before the tournament date, so we filled his days with the most diverse activities, and he loved it: be in Auckland to celebrate New Year’s Eve before the rest of the world, get to know the Maori culture, visit a volcanic island and its wineries and ride an old (but renovated) steamboat on Queenstown Lake.
Then it was Australia’s turn: he visited Sydney’s oldest suburb, climbed the Harbour Bridge, visited the beaches and finally arrived in Melbourne for the big day!!
WHO: a couple
TRAVELLING TO: celebrate their honeymoon in New Zealand
Ahhh that classic (and always amazing!) dream of visiting Middle-earth on honeymoon…
Middle-earth is present in every bit of New Zealand, but Hobbiton is an icon and this couple made it the highlight of the trip!
They also visited some other amazing towns and hiked in one of the most incredible national parks, Tongariro (which was the backdrop for Mount Doom in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies).
They stayed in an old and very iconic hotel in the region, crossed the South to North Islands on the famous ferry leaving the picturesque city of Picton and arriving in the cosmopolitan capital Wellington.
There, they visited the studios where the effects of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies were made, and were delighted by the rustic nature of the West Coast!
WHO: a wine lover business english student
TRAVELLING TO: make the best of her time learning about local culture and local wine
All she had was a weekend between classes and a week at the end of her course when she contacted me. And we made the best of these days!
Over the weekend she went to Rotorua to explore the rich Maori cultural heritage and on her last week she, being a wine lover, visited wineries in different parts of the country, returning home with her wine suitcase full of award-winning wines and stories.
Not only that, but she also saw whales on the East Coast, strolled through Christchurch and crossed to the West Coast along the beautiful landscapes of Canterbury and Otago.
